Driving at work
The Health and Safety Executive's driving for work guidance (the duty described in leaflet INDG382, Driving at work) says health and safety law applies to work on the road in the same way as on a fixed site. The risk assessment looks at the journey, the driver and the vehicle. Couriers are named as lone workers who work away from a fixed base.
Police and the DVSA enforce road traffic law. The Health and Safety Executive's note on the law explains when it investigates management failures. Zerity does not replace either regulator.

- The depot still has duties where it controls the work, the van or the site. Employment status does not switch the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 off. The Health and Safety Executive says the law may still apply if you are self-employed. Take advice on the particular contract.
- Is a walkaround check the same as a risk assessment?
- No. A walkaround is the driver's first-use defect check. A risk assessment is the depot's view of the journey, the site and the load. Keep both.
- What should the file show after a road collision?
- Who was driving, the driving licence status recorded that morning, the walkaround result, and whether a defect was closed. Zerity stores those records. It does not investigate the collision.
