Royal Mail parent IDS rejects takeover bid from biggest shareholder

Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky's bid to buy IDS, which owns Royal Mail, was rejected. Kretinsky’s company EP Corporate Group, which already owns 27.5% of IDS, made the £4.5bn offer but was rebuffed by IDS which said the bid “significantly undervalues IDS and its future prospects”.

EU Parliament adopts 90% phase-out of new diesel trucks by 2040

On April 10, the European Parliament voted in favour of a draft law that will reduce average carbon emissions of new heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) by 45% as of 2030, 65% as of 2035 and 90% as of 2040. In 2023, diesel trucks still accounted for 96% of all new truck sales.

Food deliveries to be top activity for French postal service by 2035

a Poste, France's postal service, adjusts its strategy due to declining mail volumes. CEO Philippe Wahl emphasizes expanding meal delivery for the elderly and parcel services to compensate. He also said the group planned to launch "yellow lorries", or mobile multiservice offices, in rural areas.

Amazon launches rail service

Amazon has reached an agreement with the Italian state railways. Together, they are launching a rail service to move products between distribution centers in Italy and Germany by train. They are setting up two routes: one from Duisburg in Germany to Pomezia in Italy, and one from Herne, Germany, to Verona, Italy.
